In the late 1980s Alan purchased a Minolta X-700 and after a few years decided to take it off program mode to see what he could do with it. One of his first images won an honorable mention at the Iowa State Fair and went on to be published in a photo book produced by the ICP. Around 10 or more years ago, he started experimenting with light painting and street photography.
Last year Alan received numerous international, regional, and local honors or awards, was published in numerous online magazines, and has had images displayed in a number of galleries over the years. He photographs local events for the Des Moines Arts Festival, Art Week, and Joppa.
Alan photographs about 60% digital, about 40% film, and also enjoys using old or antique cameras.
